Check your alarm in 60 seconds
Model number
On the face or the back label. Genuine Safe-T-Alert alarms are 20, 25, 30, 35, 45, 62, 80 or 85 series — for example 35-742-WT.
Certification mark
Propane alarms are listed to UL 1484, carbon monoxide alarms to UL 2034. In the US only UL and Intertek’s ETL count. No mark, or no legible file number, means no certification. Check it yourself at iq.ulprospector.com.
Seller
Open your receipt and read the seller name, not the brand in the listing title. Genuine alarms come from safetalert.com or an authorized dealer.
Genuine vs. counterfeit
Counterfeits pass a glance. They don’t pass a close look.
-
Label print
crisp type, correct logo, no spelling or spacing errors
-
UL mark
a legible file number you can look up
-
Date code
a legible file number you can look up
-
Housing and packaging
fit, finish, carton, manual
A genuine Safe-T-Alert dual alarm sounds on propane below 25% of the lower explosive limit, and on carbon monoxide within 15 minutes at 400 ppm. A counterfeit has no such number, because nobody measured.
