A mother and her 16-year-old daughter were found dead in their car at Maplewood Mobile Home Park in Byron Township, Michigan (south of Grand Rapids) on Tuesday afternoon. Deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. to reports of two unresponsive people inside a vehicle in a community parking lot. Both had apparently been deceased for some time when emergency responders arrived.
Authorities suspect carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause. The vehicle had significant exhaust system problems and damaged floorboards, which likely allowed exhaust fumes to enter the cabin. The pair had gone to sleep in the car early Tuesday morning due to an unspecified issue at their home in the mobile home park. Autopsies were scheduled to confirm the cause of death, and the victims’ names have not been released.
